Clonidine hydrochloride is an imidazoline-derivative hypotensive agent that acts through the central nervous system to elicit a hypotensive response. The commercially available transdermal system of clonidine consists of an outer layer of pigmented polyester; a drug reservoir of clonidine, mineral oil, polyisobutylene, and colloidal silicon dioxide; a microporous polypropylene membrane, which controls the rate of diffusion of the drug; and a final adhesive layer, which provides an initial release of the drug and contains those ingredients found in the reservoir. The adhesive layer is covered by a protective strip, which is removed prior to application. Clonidine hydrochloride is a white, or almost white, crystalline powder having a bitter taste. Clonidine hydrochloride and transdermal clonidine are used alone or in combination with other classes of antihypertensive agents in the management of hypertension. Although other antihypertensive drug classes angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists, calcium-channel blockers, and thiazide diuretics are preferred for the initial management of hypertension in adults, centrally acting agents such as clonidine may be considered as add-on therapy if goal blood pressure cannot be achieved with the recommended drugs. Although many hypertensive patients may be controlled by clonidine alone, the drug may be more effective when used with a diuretic. Clonidine hydrochloride has been used in conjunction with thiazide diuretics, chlorthalidone, or furosemide, producing a greater reduction in blood pressure than is obtained with either drug alone.

Some patients have developed myopathy andor myalgia, which have to be monitored. Statins can interact with many other drugs; some of which can result in increased risk of myopathy. Ezitimibe inhibits absorption of cholesterol from the intestine, probably by interfering with a cholesterol transport system. It is used as an adjunct to therapy with statins in patients with severe hyperlipidaemia, or alone if statins are not tolerated.
In this case, careful monitoring is needed because unpredictable interactions between antiepileptic drugs are possible. Withdrawal from antiepileptic drugs should be gradual to avoid the risk of precipitating rebound seizures. It is not known exactly how antiepileptic drugs work, but two mechanisms seem to be important for drugs in current use, while newer drugs may work by other means clonidine hydrochloride 0.2 mg to be elucidated. Many well-established antiepileptic drugs (for example phenobarbital and benzodiaze pines) are known to facilitate the opening of GABA chloride ion channels at synapses. However, this is not the complete explanation as, for example phenobarbital is far more effective as an anticonvulsant than other barbiturates with the same enhancing effects on GABA.
Areas of extended scope practice include rheumatology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, neurology, respiratory care and musculoskeletal medicine. As a supplementary prescriber, an extended scope physiotherapist in any of these areas would be able to prescribe, for example anti-inflammatory drugs and other non-opioid analgesics under an agreed CMP. Typically an extended scope practitioner may work in an orthopaedic screening service for a PCT. This often involves a non-medical prescribing group and development of a competency framework for prescribing drugs for patients with acute or chronic pain, for example spinal pain.
Podiatrists have had specific exemptions to the Medicines Act These exemptions allow them to access and supply certain medicines (some of which are POM) and administer local anaesthetics, in the course of their professional practice, on their own initiative and without referring to a doctor.
